Yeongcheon collision kills three sanitation workers
Three sanitation workers died following a collision between a 6-ton waste collection vehicle and a 25-ton dump truck in Yeongcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The accident occurred at approximately 4:03 AM on August 19 at the Dodong intersection.
The victims, two men in their 60s and one man in his 40s, were employees of a company contracted by Yeongcheon City to collect municipal waste. They were reportedly traveling to perform early morning cleaning duties across five districts in the city when the crash occurred.
The impact caused severe damage to the front of the collection vehicle and resulted in the dump truck overturning. The driver of the dump truck, a man in his 70s, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital.
At the time of the accident, the intersection was operating under flashing signals, which are utilized at that location between midnight and 5:00 AM. Police are currently analyzing CCTV footage and vehicle black box recordings to determine the exact circumstances of the collision.
