Yeongdeok proposes energy task force for nuclear and AI projects

Lee Kwang-seong, chairman of the Yeongdeok Nuclear Power Plant Attraction Committee, has proposed the formation of a ‘Yeongdeok Future Energy TF’. This task force, involving the county, the provincial council, and the private sector, aims to move beyond mere proposals toward the practical implementation of energy-related projects.

Key objectives include establishing nuclear power pensions, linking nuclear power with POSCO’s hydrogen reduction steelmaking, producing clean hydrogen, and attracting AI data centers. The initiative seeks to ensure that nuclear power development leads to tangible income increases for residents through industrial growth and job creation.

Additionally, the proposal emphasizes the critical need for national power transmission networks. Lee argues that while private property rights must be respected and compensated, the government must make decisive institutional choices to prioritize public interest in constructing essential infrastructure to support the growing electricity demands of the AI and semiconductor industries.
