Yeongdeungpo-gu officials propose rail and data center reforms
Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Cho Yu-jin met with Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yun-deok to propose several measures aimed at protecting residents' safety and living environments during the implementation of national projects.
A primary focus of the discussion was the construction of data centers in densely populated residential areas. The district requested amendments to the Building Act to ensure local governments have substantive deliberation rights and to address resident concerns regarding the impact of these facilities on their living conditions.
Regarding transportation and infrastructure, the district proposed several adjustments to major rail projects, including:
• Re-evaluating the location of GTX-B ventilation shafts on Yeouidong-ro and pausing construction until further resident briefings.
• Relocating or integrating ventilation shafts in Jungmaru Park and near Daebang Elementary School for the Susaek-Gwangmyeong high-speed railway.
• Expediting the opening of the Sinansan Line, specifically the Dorim Sageori Station.
Additionally, Yeongdeungpo-gu requested that the undergrounding of the Gyeongbu Line within its jurisdiction be prioritized as a leading project in the government’s upcoming integrated railway undergrounding development plan. Minister Kim instructed officials to conduct a positive review of these requests.
