Yeongdeungpo-gu opens restaurant to support low-income residents

Yeongdeungpo-gu has launched ‘Hwadeok-eoga’, a specialized grilled fish restaurant designed to support the economic independence of low-income residents. Operated by the Yeongdeungpo Local Self-Sufficiency Center, the establishment provides jobs and professional culinary training to individuals who are capable of working but struggle to find employment.

The restaurant features a high-temperature oven reaching 500 degrees Celsius to prepare various fish dishes, such as mackerel and hairtail, served with pot rice. Currently, seven self-sufficiency workers are managing all aspects of the business, from ingredient preparation and cooking to store management.

This initiative follows the success of the ‘Samgong Table’ lunchbox project, which also provided employment and affordable meals. The district aims for ‘Hwadeok-eoga’ to serve as a model for vocational training and social integration through the food service industry.
