Yeongjong District Council urges withdrawal of bus route changes

The Yeongjong District Council in Incheon has issued a statement calling for the complete withdrawal of a proposal to adjust the routes of bus numbers 205 and 206. The proposed changes aim to comply with regulations prohibiting standing passengers on expressways, which would require the buses to detour via local roads.

The Council warns that using local roads will force buses through chronic congestion zones, increasing travel times and causing significant inconvenience for commuters and students. This issue is particularly acute as the Yeongjong area's population has more than doubled over the last decade to nearly 140,000 residents, yet public transportation infrastructure has not kept pace.

With the absence of railway stations in Yeongjong Sky City and the fact that alternative options like the second airport railroad and Yeongjong Tram are not yet available, the community remains heavily dependent on bus services. The Council is demanding that Incheon City reconsider the adjustments, provide an apology to residents for proceeding without adequate alternatives, and discuss the possibility of converting the expressway into a general national road to alleviate transit issues.
