Yeongjong-gu Mayor Son Hwa-jeong outlines vision for airport economic capital
Son Hwa-jeong, the inaugural head of Incheon's newly established Yeongjong-gu, has outlined a strategic vision to transform the district into a leading airport economic capital. Her administration is focusing on addressing critical infrastructure needs, specifically targeting medical services and transportation to improve the daily lives of the 140,000 residents.
Key priorities include resolving medical gaps by attracting public hospitals and expanding late-night pharmacies, as well as enhancing connectivity through the integration of GTX-D/E, the second airport railway, and the extension of the Incheon KTX. To bolster the local economy, Son aims to develop an aviation maintenance (MRO) cluster, a bio national industrial complex, and attract major semiconductor firms like Stats ChipPAC Korea.
In recent field operations, Son conducted inspections of 28 sites across six neighborhoods to address resident grievances. These inspections focused on immediate concerns such as waste management, school zone safety, and road maintenance, emphasizing a policy of direct communication and rapid response to local issues.
