Yeongjongdo faces public safety concerns due to CCTV shortages

Public safety concerns are rising in Yeongjongdo, Incheon, due to a significant shortage of surveillance CCTV, which is hindering police investigations into recent incidents.

In one instance, authorities are struggling to identify a suspect following reports of an unidentified man wandering through Eungol Park with a weapon. Investigators found only a single CCTV camera in the park, which failed to capture the individual. Similarly, police have faced difficulties investigating the discovery of plastic bottles containing rice and US dollar bills near Muui Bridge, an area where crime prevention cameras are also scarce.

Data indicates that Yeongjong-gu has approximately 9 CCTV cameras per square kilometer, one of the lowest densities among the districts in Incheon. Local police have expressed that investigations which would be easily resolved in mainland areas are proving difficult due to these blind spots. In response, local authorities are considering expanding CCTV coverage to approximately 30 additional locations.
