Yeongju City launches drone food delivery for campers
Yeongju City has launched a drone delivery service for visitors at the Yeongju Lake Auto Camping Ground. Operating from October 3 to November 29, the service runs every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
In collaboration with the Yeongju Nonghyup Farmers Market and the public delivery app ‘Meokkkaebi’, the service delivers fresh local food items such as meat, vegetables, and fruit. This initiative aims to eliminate the inconvenience of campers having to drive into the city center to shop for groceries.
As part of the ‘2026 Drone Demonstration City Construction Project’, the city has upgraded its technology to allow for high-weight (7kg) and long-distance (20km round trip) drone flights. This expansion enables the delivery of various food items, including chicken and hamburgers, to areas previously inaccessible to standard delivery riders. Mayor Hwang Byeong-jik stated that the service represents a new model combining local food distribution, advanced drone technology, and the tourism industry.
