Yeongju-si links tax delinquency management with welfare services
Yeongju-si is utilizing its local tax delinquency management team to identify households in crisis and connect them with essential welfare services. The team focuses on small-scale delinquents owing less than 1 million won, using the process of tax notification and collection encouragement to assess the economic status of taxpayers.
When the team identifies individuals facing long-term unemployment or extreme financial hardship, they coordinate with relevant departments to guide them toward available welfare programs. In a recent case, a taxpayer facing severe economic difficulties due to long-term unemployment was connected to the Community Chest of Korea for emergency living expenses and assisted with applications for basic livelihood security and near-poverty status support.
The city intends to continue this integrated approach, using tax consultation not only for collection but as a mechanism to discover those in welfare blind spots.
