Yeonsu-gu begins construction on first public elderly care center

Yeonsu-gu in Incheon has commenced construction on its first district-operated elderly nursing facility, the ‘Yeonsu-gu Silver Care Center’. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on the 10th in Seonhak-dong to mark the start of the project.

Targeting completion in the first half of 2028, the facility will be built on a 9,673 square meter site. The four-story building will include patient rooms, bathrooms, and physical therapy rooms. It will also feature specialized program spaces, such as a walking rail, to integrate rehabilitation with daily life support. The center is designed to harmonize with the adjacent Hanmaeum Park to provide a natural environment for residents.

The project has a total budget of approximately 14.8 billion won, supported by national and city funds to reduce the local district's financial burden. This initiative aims to supplement existing private-sector long-term care services and strengthen public responsibility in elderly care, as the district's elderly population (aged 65 and over) has exceeded 60,000, accounting for roughly 14.8% of the total population.
