Yeosu, Suncheon, and Gwangyang agree on COP33 bid and industrial cooperation

The cities of Yeosu, Suncheon, and Gwangyang have agreed to strengthen cooperation to drive sustainable growth and regional development in the Gwangyang Bay area. During the 42nd regular meeting of the Yeosu-Suncheon-Gwangyang Administrative Council, the three municipalities resolved seven joint agenda items.

A primary focus is the joint bid to host the 33rd UN Climate Change Conference (COP33) in South Korea, with a proposal to designate the South Coast-South Central region, including Yeosu, as a priority candidate site. The cities also aim to establish an RE100 National Industrial Complex and a regional cluster to integrate traditional industries like steel and petrochemicals with future sectors such as secondary batteries and advanced materials.

In terms of tourism, the cities will launch a project to build an integrated tourism system, linking Yeosu’s marine and island tourism, Suncheon’s ecological gardens, and Gwangyang’s industrial and cultural assets. Additionally, they pledged to support the successful conclusion of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo by encouraging visitor participation.
