Yeosu World Island Expo opens in South Korea

The 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, the first global event of its kind centered on island culture, officially opened in Yeosu, South Korea. The opening ceremony, attended by approximately 5,000 guests including local officials and residents, featured a multi-part program including traditional performances, a creative musical titled ‘Sinjikki: The Last Mermaid’, and a lighting drone show depicting the 365 islands of Yeosu.

Running until November 4, the expo operates under the theme ‘Islands, Connecting the Sea and the Future’. In addition to the main venue at the Dolsan Jinmo District, satellite programs are being held in areas such as Geodo and Geumodo, offering camping, trekking, and local food experiences. The event aims to showcase the current value and future vision of islands through various exhibitions and cultural programs.
