Yeri Mua faces potential fines for use of Mexican flag in photos

Influencer and singer Yeri Mua is facing criticism and potential legal consequences after sharing photographs during Mexico's Independence Day celebrations that featured the national flag. The images, which showed the influencer posing in silver underwear with the tricolor flag partially covering her body and spread on the ground, sparked backlash on social media for being disrespectful to the national symbol.

Under the Law on the Shield, Flag, and National Anthem, the Secretaría de Gobernación has the authority to impose administrative sanctions for the misuse of national symbols. The law prohibits the flag from touching the ground outside of official protocols and forbids altering its characteristics. Potential penalties include fines of up to 10,000 times the value of the UMA (Unit of Measure and Update), which exceeds 1.1 million pesos, as well as administrative arrest for up to 36 hours. Although the influencer deleted the original post, the images continue to circulate online.
