Yerkesik hosts 38th traditional calf beauty contest
The 38th Traditional Yerkesik Bullfighting and Festival was held in the Menteşe district of Muğla, featuring a Calf Beauty Contest. Supported by the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, the competition saw 17 calves participate across three categories: Simental, Montofon, and Holstein.
Jury members evaluated the calves based on five specific criteria: height, weight, character, health, and decoration. The event drew significant interest from local residents and was attended by officials including Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Osman Can Yenice, Yerkesik Neighborhood Headman Kemal Çamlıbel, and Muğla Breeders Association President Süleyman Gül.
Winners received prizes in the form of animal feed. Abdullah Uysal’s calf, Cumali, took first place and received 8 sacks of feed; Sevil Sarıoğlu’s calf, Kibar, took second with 6 sacks; and Ayyüz Özbek’s calf, Afrodit, took third with 4 sacks.
