Yerköy Train Station marks century of regional history

The Yerköy Train Station, located in the Yozgat province of Turkey, serves as a significant historical and economic landmark on the Ankara-Kars railway line. Originally planned during the Ottoman era by Austrian engineer Wilhelm von Pressel in 1872, the station was built by the Anatolia-Baghdad Railway Company (CFAB).

The station officially began serving passenger and freight transport on November 20, 1925. Its development was a key factor in Yerköy gaining district status in 1945, as the railway facilitated economic, commercial, and social growth in the region.

Following recent electrification and infrastructure upgrades completed in December 2021, the station remains a vital transit point. It currently serves several major routes, including the Eastern Express, the Blue Train, the Southern Kurtalan Express, and the Lake Van Express, connecting travelers to destinations such as Ankara, Kars, Malatya, and Tatvan.
