Yesemek Open Air Museum attracts visitors in Gaziantep

The Yesemek Open Air Museum, located in the İslahiye district of Gaziantep, continues to serve as a significant historical and tourist destination. Recognized on UNESCO’s World Heritage Tentative List, the site features the world’s largest open-air sculpture workshop, spanning an area of approximately 110 to 250 decares.

The workshop originated from Hittite stone quarries located about one kilometer above the site, chosen for the suitability of the stone for carving. While the museum attracts international visitors, officials note that tourism fluctuates seasonally, with peak activity occurring in the spring and autumn months, while summer heat causes a temporary decline in visitor numbers.

In addition to its historical value, the museum plays a role in the regional economy, particularly in İslahiye, an area heavily impacted by the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. Local visitors have noted the site's importance for cultural preservation and regional development.
