YggTorrent tracker faces arrests, shutdown and announced September comeback

In March 2026 the French‑language torrent tracker YggTorrent was hit by a major hack carried out by a hacker known as “Gr0lum”. The breach exposed user databases and drained cryptocurrency wallets belonging to the site’s administrators. French authorities, including the UNCyber unit of the gendarmerie and the national police, launched a large‑scale operation that resulted in the arrest of twelve alleged operators, the seizure of servers and the dismantling of the tracker’s infrastructure. A short‑lived mirror site, ygg.leak, offered access to the stolen data but was taken down within weeks.

Despite the crackdown, a new countdown page now shows YggTorrent planning to relaunch on 1 September 2026. The page claims the tracker’s catalog, community and “Ygg spirit” remain unchanged and points to ongoing torrent activity – roughly 478,000 torrents and over 1.7 million peers – suggesting a new team may be operating the service. The legitimacy of the announced revival and the response of French authorities remain uncertain.
