YIA Airport Train sees passenger growth in early 2026

Passenger numbers for the Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) train services have shown growth during the first eight months of 2026. The regular YIA Airport Train service recorded 1,230,728 passengers from January to August 2026, representing a 2.97 percent increase compared to the 1,195,258 passengers recorded during the same period in 2025.

When combining the regular service and the YIA Xpress, total ridership reached 1,810,805 passengers. The YIA Xpress accounted for 580,077 of those travelers. Porwanto Handry Nugroho, President Director of KAI Bandara, stated that this growth indicates increasing public trust in the rail service as a primary mode of transport connecting Yogyakarta city center with the airport.

On September 3, 2026, the service maintains a schedule of 24 total trips, split equally with 12 departures from YIA to Tugu Station and 12 departures from Tugu Station to YIA. The journey typically takes between 35 and 40 minutes.
