Yiaga Africa to use AI to verify Osun State election results

Yiaga Africa has announced the deployment of an artificial intelligence-assisted system to monitor the Osun State governorship election. The organization intends to use its Process and Results Verification for Transparency (PRVT) methodology alongside its Election Result Analysis Dashboard (ERAD 2.0) to scrutinize election results and detect discrepancies between votes cast at polling units and those uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.

Executive Director Samson Itodo noted that the presence of results on the INEC portal does not inherently guarantee authenticity, citing a lack of public visibility during certain validation stages. The AI-assisted platform is designed to provide an independent, data-driven audit of the electronic transmission of results.

In preparation for the vote, Yiaga Africa’s Watching The Vote (WTV) Working Group inspected INEC offices in various local government areas to evaluate the deployment of election materials and overall readiness. Observers engaged with officials and stakeholders regarding the arrival of sensitive materials, security arrangements, and the presence of political party agents. In the Ejigbo Local Government Area, officials confirmed that sensitive materials had arrived and security personnel from the State Security Service and Nigeria Police Force were stationed to secure the process.
