Yilan and Keelung launch school drug prevention campaigns

Local governments in Yilan and Keelung have launched drug prevention initiatives as part of the first semester of the 115 academic year Friendly Campus Week. The campaigns focus on combating the use of etomidate, a substance often found in e-cigarettes, which was officially reclassified as a first-class narcotic on June 27, 2026.

In Yilan, officials held a swearing-in ceremony at Zhonghua Junior High School to promote the “Three Nos and One Ask” principle: do not use, do not try, do not hide, and ask for help. The initiative aims to create a safe and supportive learning environment by integrating education, police, health, and social services to address issues such as bullying, mental health, and drug abuse.

Similarly, Keelung City conducted an expanded ceremony at Jiande Junior High School. The city is utilizing cross-departmental cooperation involving the police and health bureaus to educate students on identifying and refusing emerging drugs. Officials emphasized that students must be empowered to reject unknown e-cigarette oils and seek professional assistance through established channels if they or their peers encounter difficulties.
