Yilan County offers free city bus rides for World Car Free Day

The Yilan County Government is observing World Car Free Day by offering three days of free local city bus services from September 20 to 22, 2026. Acting County Magistrate Lin Mao-sheng announced that during this period, passengers can use most local city buses without needing to tap their cards. This initiative excludes cross-border city bus routes, highway buses, Taipingshan weekday special buses, and national highway buses.

To promote low-carbon mobility, the county is also launching the ‘宜CHILL BIKE’ event and a ‘Walk, Tour, and Ride’ challenge. Furthermore, the government has announced plans to introduce a public bicycle service in 2027. The rollout will follow a three-stage strategy, starting with Yilan City and Luodong Town. The long-term goal includes establishing 100 rental stations and 1,250 public bicycles across the county to provide more diverse and convenient green transportation options.
