Yinchuan hosts major international wine congress and expo
Yinchuan, the capital of China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is hosting two major viticulture events: the 47th World Congress of Vine and Wine & OIV General Assembly and the 6th China (Ningxia) International Wine Culture and Tourism Expo. The World Congress marks the first time the event has been held in Asia since its inception in 1924.
The assembly has drawn over 800 participants, including delegates from 51 member states of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), diplomats, and industry experts. Ningxia’s wine industry has grown significantly, with the region accounting for approximately 40 percent of China’s total wine grape plantations, totaling about 40,400 hectares by 2025.
Local producers, such as Xige Estate, are increasingly utilizing digital systems to monitor soil and environmental conditions to enhance production. These enterprises aim to strengthen international brand recognition for Chinese wines, which are already being exported to markets including Canada, Australia, Singapore, Japan, and Thailand.
