Yinka Shonibare nominates Unathi Mkonto for Frieze London

As part of Tiffany & Co’s ‘Artist-to-Artist’ programme at Frieze London, established artist Yinka Shonibare has nominated Cape Town-based artist Unathi Mkonto to present his work at the fair.

Mkonto, a self-taught artist with a background in architecture, utilizes drawing, installation, sculpture, and performance to explore the relationship between space and habitation. Shonibare noted that Mkonto’s work offers a unique approach to minimalist art by incorporating South African subject matter, contrasting with traditional minimalism that focuses primarily on the object itself.
