Yıldırım Kaya criticizes agricultural economic pressures in Edirne

CHP Deputy Chairman Yıldırım Kaya addressed economic and agricultural challenges in Edirne during a press conference. He highlighted that while Edirne is a strategic grain hub, local producers are struggling due to rising costs.

Kaya noted that wheat prices dropped from 16 lira to 14 lira per kilogram, while diesel prices doubled from approximately 40-42 lira to 81-82 lira. He also reported that sunflower planting areas in the region are projected to decrease by 15 percent in 2026, while canola planting has seen a 100 percent increase due to drought and economic pressures.

Additionally, Kaya criticized the lack of economic benefit for local businesses despite high traffic through the Kapıkule border crossing.
