Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi hit by ransomware attack

Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi (YTÜ) has confirmed a significant data breach following a ransomware attack on its virtualization infrastructure and servers. The breach was detected on October 1, 2026, the same day it began.

According to the Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK), the incident may have affected approximately 140,000 students and 4,500 staff members. The number of visitors affected by the breach has not yet been determined. While the specific categories of personal data compromised remain unconfirmed, the attack has caused disruptions to various digital services, including student information systems and online course platforms.
