Yle livestream of six puppies draws millions of viewers

The Finnish national public broadcaster, Yle, is hosting a 24/7 slow TV livestream titled ‘Pentulive’ featuring six Lagotto Romagnolo puppies. The broadcast, which monitors the development of the litter from birth, has already garnered over 6 million views on social media in a country of approximately 5.7 million people.

The puppies, born on October 10 to a five-year-old mother named Hilkka, consist of four males and two females. The program integrates scientific elements, including podcasts, online articles, and chat sessions with science journalists to detail the dogs' developmental milestones.

According to Yle science journalist Pirjo Koskinen, the project aims to provide both educational value and psychological benefits. Observing the puppies can trigger the release of oxytocin in humans, a hormone associated with social bonding and anxiety reduction, offering viewers an escape from global stresses.
