Finland's Pentulive puppy livestream attracts millions of viewers

The Finnish national public broadcaster, Yle, has seen massive success with its “slow TV” project, Pentulive, a 24/7 livestream featuring six newborn puppies. The litter, consisting of four males and two females born on October 10 to a Lagotto Romagnolo named Hilkka, has garnered millions of views on social media and attracted a significant television audience.

Now in its sixth season, the program provides more than just visual entertainment; it incorporates scientific elements through podcasts, digital articles, and live chat sessions with viewers to track the puppies' developmental milestones. Producers note that the broadcast serves as a form of stress relief and comfort for viewers, potentially triggering oxytocin release.

The phenomenon is expanding internationally, with Sweden’s SVT airing the stream and interest from Dutch broadcasters. The puppies are expected to be adopted by new families in mid-December.
