Ylitalon tila poultry farm recalls eggs due to salmonella

A salmonella infection has been confirmed at the Ylitalon tila poultry farm in Pöytyä, Finland, affecting approximately half of the farm's 40,000 laying hens. Following Food Authority guidelines, the birds are to be culled, and the production facilities will undergo extensive cleaning and disinfection. Production is not expected to resume until at least next year.

Egg products from the farm, which is a contract producer for the Munax packaging plant, have been distributed to major grocery chains and various local markets, including Yläne, Säkylä, Paraiset, and Turku.

A recall is in effect for eggs marked with the stamps 2FI164181 or 2FI164182, with best-before dates on or before September 8. Consumers are advised to discard these eggs in mixed waste. While salmonella is destroyed at temperatures above 70 degrees Celsius, making cooked eggs safe, the specific batches are being withdrawn from sale. Consumers can seek compensation by providing a photo of the egg stamp and returning the empty carton to the point of purchase.
