Yılmaz Çatıklı: Visually impaired farmer manages crops and machinery in Kastamonu
Yılmaz Çatıklı, a 35-year-old farmer born visually impaired, continues to manage his agricultural life independently in Çatalyazı village, located in the İhsangazi district of Kastamonu, Turkey.
Following the passing of his parents, Çatıklı has maintained his livelihood by cultivating Siyez wheat and various other agricultural products. He performs a wide range of demanding tasks alone, including operating a tractor, performing vehicle maintenance, and chopping firewood with an axe. While local villagers provide some assistance with field work, Çatıklı manages much of his daily routine and equipment upkeep himself.
Çatıklı, who completed high school through integrated education, emphasizes the importance of curiosity and continuous learning. He stated, “There is nothing impossible,” noting that while disability presents challenges, staying active is essential for success.
