Yılmaz Erdoğan sues for 40,000 TL over social media insults

Actor Yılmaz Erdoğan has filed a lawsuit seeking 40,000 Turkish Lira in non-pecuniary damages following insults directed at him on social media.

The legal action stems from a Facebook comment made on August 21, 2023, by Mustafa A., a resident of Manisa, which contained profanity and heavy insults against the actor. Following Erdoğan’s complaint, a criminal proceeding resulted in Mustafa A. being sentenced to a judicial fine of 3,480 Turkish Lira, with the court deciding to suspend the announcement of the verdict.

Erdoğan has since pursued civil litigation, arguing that the social media comments constituted a violation of his personal rights.
