YMTC enters global top three for flash memory market
Chinese manufacturer YMTC (Yangtze Memory Technologies Co.) has emerged as a major player in the global flash memory market, securing a position among the top three manufacturers. In the second quarter of 2026, the Wuhan-based company captured 14% of global NAND technology shipments, surpassing established industry giants such as Micron and Kioxia.
This rapid ascent is driven by significant technological innovations, specifically the Xtacking architecture. This 3D NAND technology separates the memory matrix from peripheral electronics to improve manufacturing efficiency and performance. Recent iterations, such as Xtacking 3.0 and developments toward Xtacking 4.0, have focused on increasing density and write speeds to compete with leaders like Samsung and SK Hynix.
YMTC’s growth is supported by substantial Chinese government investment aimed at reducing national dependence on foreign semiconductors. The company has also strategically diversified its offerings to target the expanding enterprise SSD market.
