YMTC becomes world's third-largest NAND flash memory supplier

Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp (YMTC) has reached a significant milestone by becoming the world's third-largest NAND flash memory supplier by shipment volume for the second quarter of 2026. According to data from Counterpoint Research, YMTC captured a 14% global market share, narrowly surpassing Japan's Kioxia and the United States' Micron Technology. The global market continues to be led by South Korean firms, with Samsung Electronics holding 25% and SK Hynix securing 22% of the market.

YMTC's growth is attributed to a 22% year-on-year increase in shipments, driven by expanding supplies to domestic Chinese manufacturers and advancements in its 3D NAND technology. The company is currently mass-producing 267-layer NAND and is developing products exceeding 300 layers using its Xtacking architecture.

Despite the surge in volume, YMTC remains fifth in terms of global NAND revenue. This discrepancy is due to a product portfolio heavily weighted toward lower-margin consumer electronics rather than high-margin enterprise solid-state drives (eSSDs) used in data centers. Analysts suggest that reaching a 15% market share is a critical threshold for companies to self-finance future capital expenditures. YMTC is also reportedly preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) on the Shanghai Stock Exchange's STAR Market.
