YMTC prepares for IPO to expand NAND capacity and challenge global leaders

Yangtze Memory Technologies Co. (YMTC) is preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) on the Shanghai Stock Exchange's STAR Market to fund expansion and capitalize on the AI-driven surge in NAND Flash demand. Following the recent successful IPO of DRAM specialist ChangXin Memory Technologies, YMTC aims to leverage capital to enhance its manufacturing capabilities and compete with global leaders.

YMTC has emerged as the world's third-largest NAND Flash supplier by shipment volume, reaching a 14% market share in Q2 2026 and surpassing Kioxia. While its shipment volume is high, the company currently ranks fifth in revenue due to a limited presence in the high-margin enterprise SSD market. To address this, YMTC plans to increase its enterprise-grade SSD product mix by the second half of 2026 to meet the needs of AI data centers.

The company is aggressively expanding capacity, with projections suggesting annual NAND production will grow from 2.01 million wafers in 2026 to 2.50 million in 2027. This growth is largely driven by its Wuhan Plant 3. YMTC has set an internal goal to become the world's largest NAND supplier by the end of 2027, challenging the dominance of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
