Yoav Segalovitz to join Ra’am party in Israel’s Knesset
Yoav Segalovitz, a Jewish former police officer and self-described Zionist, is set to join the Ra’am party in Israel’s parliament following recent elections. Ra’am, an Arab-led party, secured several seats in the 120-member Knesset.
Segalovitz stated that his partnership with Ra’am leader Mansour Abbas aims to demonstrate that Jews and Arabs can form political coalitions across religious and racial divides. He emphasized that despite differences in secularism and religion, both are citizens of Israel working toward progress.
The move has sparked debate within Israel. While some view it as a model for cooperation, right-wing critics have condemned the decision. The role of Arab-led parties, which won a significant number of seats, may be decisive in determining whether a majority can be formed to oppose Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
