Yobe APC Chairman apologizes for controversial divorce remarks
Alhaji Muhammad Gadaka, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State, has issued a public apology and withdrawn controversial remarks made during a political gathering in Nangere town.
Speaking at an event for party defectors, Gadaka had previously urged married women to seek divorces if their husbands prevented them from voting for the APC in the 2027 general elections. He further stated that he would pay the bride price to marry any woman who left her marriage due to her political allegiance to the party.
The comments drew significant backlash from residents and Islamic scholars, who criticized the statements as provocative and harmful to family values. In a subsequent video, Gadaka clarified that his remarks were intended merely as a joke and did not reflect his actual positions or the ideals of the party.
