Two men, identified as 67-year-old A. D. and 42-year-old O. S., have been arrested in Yoff, Senegal, on suspicion of defrauding a merchant of more than 60 million FCFA.
The victim, a merchant identified by the initials S. Diop, reportedly met A. D. during a trip to Kaolack. Under the guise of being a renowned marabout, A. D. promised prosperity through mystical baths, prayers, and sacrifices. Over time, the merchant allegedly surrendered his assets, including vehicles and containers of spare parts, to the suspects.
The fraud was interrupted when gendarmes from the Foire territorial brigade intervened during an attempt to extort an additional 700,000 FCFA for a purported sacrifice to free a djinn. While the suspects initially denied knowing the complainant, they reportedly admitted to certain facts during interrogation.
