Yoga and Pilates techniques for core and full-body strength

Fitness routines combining elements of Yoga and Pilates offer diverse ways to strengthen the core, back, arms, and legs. One effective method involves a modified Bird-Dog pose. While the traditional Yoga version focuses on stability by extending an arm and the opposite leg from a quadruped position, the routine can be intensified using a Pilates ball. By pressing the hand into the ball while simultaneously extending the leg, the exercise increases the demand on the core and balance.

Additionally, Pilates can be performed standing rather than exclusively on a mat. Standing exercises, such as prayer hands heel raises performed from a squat position, emphasize controlled movements and specific breathing techniques. By engaging the core—specifically by pulling the navel inward—and maintaining slow, deliberate motions, these standing movements can provide a full-body workout that improves posture and strength.
