Yoga and Tai Chi linked to reduced osteoarthritis pain in elderly
A 2025 meta-analysis published in Frontiers in Public Health has highlighted the benefits of Active Mind-Body Movement Therapies (AMBMTs) for elderly individuals suffering from osteoarthritis. The study, which reviewed 27 separate research papers involving 1,781 participants, found that practices such as yoga, Tai Chi, and Baduanjin significantly reduce pain, joint stiffness, and functional limitations compared to control groups.
While Tai Chi showed superior results in pain reduction, yoga was noted for its effectiveness in improving joint flexibility. Researchers emphasize that these activities serve as supportive therapies rather than definitive cures for osteoarthritis, which commonly affects weight-bearing joints like the knees.
In a related context, singer Xu Ru Yun has credited her youthful appearance and energy to a consistent yoga practice and stress-management techniques, such as bathing, noting that emotional well-being is closely linked to skin health and overall physical condition.
