Yoga practices for improved sleep and mental well-being

Yoga practices can be utilized to improve sleep quality and manage stress by engaging the parasympathetic nervous system. Low-impact movements performed in bed, such as Legs-Up-the-Wall, Child’s Pose, Reclined Butterfly, Reclined Twist, and Savasana, can help transition the body from a high-alert state to a rest-and-digest state. These routines aim to lower blood pressure and heart rate through controlled breathing and intentional movement.

Beyond physical benefits, yoga practice involves psychological elements such as contentment, or 'samtosha.' Practitioners are encouraged to avoid the pitfalls of comparison and judgment during poses like Upavistha Konasana (Wide-Angled Seated Forward Bend), focusing instead on their unique individual progress and the importance of starting from their current state.
