Yogi Adityanath announces Faizullaganj-Naimish embankment to combat flooding

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced the construction of a new embankment from Faizullaganj to Naimish to protect areas from Gomti River flooding. Modeled after a ‘green corridor’, the project will include a roadway to serve both flood prevention and transportation needs.

The announcement followed an aerial survey and a visit to flood-affected families in the Bakshi Ka Talab tehsil. The Chief Minister stated that the project has been approved and work will proceed once the monsoon season concludes. To prevent water accumulation in residential areas, the government plans to install pumping sets to drain excess water back into the river.

Heavy rainfall in over 50 districts, including Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Sitapur, as well as runoff from Nepal, has caused the Gomti's water levels to rise, creating flood-like conditions in Bakshi Ka Talab, Lucknow North, and the Faizullaganj-Naimish stretch. The administration is currently distributing relief kits containing essential items such as rice, flour, pulses, and tarpaulins to affected families, who are being housed in relief camps in schools and marriage halls.
