Uttar Pradesh announces free bus travel for women during Raksha Bandhan
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced free bus travel for women to celebrate the Raksha Bandhan festival. The facility, provided through the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), will run from 6:00 AM on August 27 until midnight on August 29.
Under this initiative, female passengers are permitted to travel for free along with one companion. The scheme also extends to over 900 urban development department buses. To ensure safety and convenience, the Chief Minister has directed increased patrolling on highways, expressways, and major routes, and ordered the verification of drivers for private buses, taxis, and e-rickshaws.
In a high-level review meeting, officials were instructed to prevent overloading, ensure drivers adhere to official fares, and maintain strict monitoring of road safety. The administration is also addressing regional issues such as flood relief and waterlogging in several districts.
