Yogurt consumption linked to lower colorectal adenoma risk
A study published in the journal Gut, conducted by researchers at the University of Washington, has identified a link between long-term yogurt consumption and a reduced risk of certain colorectal adenomas.
The research highlights that men who consume yogurt at least twice a week show a lower risk of developing tubular adenomas by approximately 19%. For adenomas with characteristics that pose a higher risk of progressing into cancer, the reduction in risk was recorded at up to 26%.
Experts caution that yogurt should not be viewed as a “miracle drug” for cancer prevention. While the findings are significant, colorectal cancer risk is influenced by a complex combination of factors, including age, genetics, weight, physical activity, and overall lifestyle. Yogurt is recommended as part of a healthy, fiber-rich diet rather than a replacement for medical screenings and professional health advice.
