Yogyakarta City Government holds student mural competition to prevent vandalism

The Yogyakarta City Government organized the 2026 Student Mural Competition to combat vandalism and enhance the city's visual aesthetics. Held on October 9 and 10, 2026, as part of the city's 270th anniversary celebrations, the event aimed to transform blank public walls into urban art canvases.

Regional Secretary Budi Santosa Asrori stated that the initiative serves as an educational tool to prevent vandalism while beautifying the landscape. The competition saw participation from 74 teams across two categories: 50 teams from junior high schools and 25 teams from senior high schools. Participants created works along strategic protocol roads, including areas near SMP Negeri 1, SMP Negeri 8, SMP Negeri 10, MA Negeri 1 Yogyakarta, and the Terban Cemetery.
