Yogyakarta faces hazy weather and calls for community cooperation
The Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) is expected to experience hazy conditions throughout Tuesday, August 18, 2026. According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), these conditions may reduce visibility for travelers and those working outdoors. Specifically, Kulonprogo and Bantul are predicted to face haze and high humidity levels, with Bantul potentially reaching up to 99 percent humidity. In contrast, Gunungkidul is expected to remain cloudy.
Separately, Yogyakarta Mayor Hasto Wardoyo has called on citizens to strengthen community cooperation and self-reliance. Speaking at a national event ahead of Indonesia's 81st Independence Day, Wardoyo emphasized that social unity and economic sovereignty are essential for the nation's future. He highlighted the need to reduce dependence on foreign products by strengthening domestic technology and industry.
