Yogyakarta government seeks clarification on rising economic deciles

The Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) regional government is seeking clarification from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) regarding an increase in the economic decile rankings of certain residents, despite an overall decline in the region's poverty rate. As of March 2026, the poverty rate in DIY fell to 9.70%.

Regional Secretary Ni Made Dwipanti Indrayaty stated that the government needs to understand the specific indicators used by BPS to determine these rankings, particularly when residents report no change in their economic status despite moving into higher deciles.

To improve policy accuracy, the regional government is pushing for better data integration. This initiative aims to provide a clearer overview of aid recipients, helping to prevent duplicate assistance and ensure that programs such as social aid and housing improvements reach the intended beneficiaries.
