Yogyakarta MSME incident prompts calls for business certainty

The Asosiasi Business Development Services Indonesia (ABDSI) is calling for stronger protections and business certainty for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) following an incident in Yogyakarta. The culinary business Bolosego ceased food truck operations at Alun-Alun Kidul on September 16, 2026, after only one day of operation, citing unauthorized payment demands despite having the necessary permits.

In response to the incident, Propam Polresta Yogyakarta has identified one personnel member as a suspected violator and is investigating others involved in parking management. The Keraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat has clarified that the reported levies were outside the official licensing process, and the Yogyakarta City Government is coordinating efforts to reorganize the Alun-Alun Kidul area.

ABDSI Chairman Bahrul Ulum Ilham emphasized that MSMEs require more than just legal permits; they need operational certainty. He stated that licensed entrepreneurs deserve to know official fees, authorized collectors, and clear channels for grievances to prevent issues when operating in public or tourist spaces.
