Yogyakarta officials propose new protection laws for women and children

The Yogyakarta City Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) is pushing for a new regional regulation (Raperda) focused on the protection of women and children who are victims of violence. The proposed regulation aims to ensure that support for victims does not end once a legal case is settled, but continues until psychological trauma is addressed.

Ipung Purwandari, Chairperson of the Regional Regulation Formation Body (Bapemperda), emphasized that protection must be comprehensive, covering prevention, immediate handling, and long-term recovery. The initiative follows recent incidents of violence, including a case at a daycare center, highlighting the urgent need for strengthened legal guarantees and specialized services for victims.
