Yogyakarta railway passenger numbers rise during Maulid Nabi holiday
Passenger mobility in the Yogyakarta region has seen a significant increase during the Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW national holiday. PT KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta reported that 47,833 passengers arrived at or departed from various stations as of Tuesday afternoon, August 25, 2026. This represents a 23% increase compared to the previous week.
Stasiun Yogyakarta served as the busiest hub with 15,613 passengers, followed by Stasiun Lempuyangan with 5,801. To manage the surge, KAI Daop 6 operated additional facultative train services, including the KA Batavia (Solo Balapan-Gambir) and KA Sancaka (Jogja-Surabaya Gubeng).
Additionally, the KA Prameks local train service continues to serve as a primary mobility option for commuters between Yogyakarta and Kutoarjo. The service operates daily with a fare of Rp 8,000 per passenger, providing transit through strategic stops in Kulonprogo and Purworejo.
