Yogyakarta reports growth in exports and international tourism
The Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) has reported significant growth in both its export sector and international tourism during the first half of 2026.
Export values for DIY reached $352.58 million between January and July 2026, marking an 8.74% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. While the United States remains the primary market, local authorities are actively seeking to expand trade with Australia and China. Anton Raharja, Head of the DIY Industry and Trade Office, attributed the cumulative growth to the high competitiveness of local products and stable buyer demand. The use of Certificates of Origin (SKA) and Declarations of Origin (DAB) has further supported product competitiveness in international markets.
In the tourism sector, international visitor arrivals in DIY rose to 46,100 during the first semester of 2026, up from 43,200 in the same period in 2025. While ASEAN countries like Malaysia and Singapore provide the highest volume of visitors, the highest growth rates were seen in other regions. British tourists saw a 46.8% increase, followed by significant growth from China (33.7%), Australia (30.7%), Japan (29.7%), and Germany (27.7%).
