Yogyakarta updates disaster management regulations to prioritize mitigation

The Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) is updating its regional regulations regarding disaster management. The DIY Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) and the local government are working to replace Perda Number 13 of 2015 with a new regulation that addresses evolving threats and risks.

The new regulation aims to shift the focus from mere post-disaster response to proactive prevention and risk reduction. Key priorities include strengthening institutional frameworks, improving technology, enhancing early warning systems for real-time information, and integrating disaster mitigation into spatial planning and development processes.
